- Just hours after Vince McMahon filed a lawsuit against Connecticut's
Secretary of State, Susan Bysiewicz clarified her statement regarding
banning voters who show up wearing WWE merchandise on Tuesday for the
election. "Over the past few days, there have been several media reports
suggesting that this office issued a directive to local election officials
that voters who wear...WWE T-shirts, hats or other apparel to the polls
should be turned away from the polls," Bysiewicz wrote in a letter
registrars of voters and town clerks. "These reports misstate the law and
misconstrue the statements from this office." In an interview published by
the Hartford Courant, Bysiewicz said that if someone shows up "with a Hulk
Hogan t-shirt" it shouldn't be a problem, the only problem will be if you
show up with a Linda McMahon or Richard Blumenthal shirt. Blumenthal's
campaign had no problem with WWE t-shirts despite his office - as Attorney
General - didn't react when news came out that WWE merchandise were going to
be banned. "We don't consider WWE clothing to be political or covered by any
law that restricts political action close to polling places," his campaign
manager, Mindy Myers, said. "People should be able to wear their WWE clothes
to vote."
> VINCE MCMAHON CLAIMS VICTORY OVER SHIRT BAN
- WWE CEO and Chairman Vince McMahon expressed his satisfaction after
Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz changed her view on banning WWE
merchandise at the polls come Tuesday, the day of the election. "The moment
Connecticut Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz issued an un-American,
unconstitutional and discriminatory directive prohibiting voters from
wearing WWE merchandise at the polls, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal
should have immediately stepped in to enforce the law,'' a press release
issued by WWE said. "As a result of the Attorney General's inaction, I
brought suit to enforce these basic, fundamental constitutional rights.
Within hours of filing the lawsuit, Blumenthal recused himself, and
Bysiewicz reversed her position and immediately notified all Local Registrar
of Voters and Town Clerks via email. I am pleased that Connecticut voters
have had their freedom of expression and their right to vote restored,"
Vince McMahon said. It will be interesting to see if Vince McMahon goes to
vote wearing any WWE merchandise himself!
