OKay the plot is very, very basic:

Aliens invade earth
The Marines go fight them
All hope looks lost
The Marines find a way to kick ass
Earth is saved

Lots of cool special effects and wide angle shots. Very good military action sequences. Main actors were Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight, Thank You For Smoking) and Michelle Rodriguez (Machette, Resident Evil) and a lot of young actors you will recognize. I enjoyed it and didn't regret spending the $8 to see it.

I would recommend it to everyone.

Saw it today and loved it, a simple militaristic movie .
Surprised to read a few negative movie reviews online.

Thought Aaron Eckhart filled his role nicely and did a great job.

Movie critics give bad reveiws to validate their own existence. I have seen 100s of movies at the theater and 1000s of movies on video. If I don't walk out, regret spending the money, or shut the movie off part way through, it had at least some value. I watch movies to be entertained. If I forget about real world problems for an hour and a half thanks to a movie, then it did it's job. Not all movies are written to inspire the world, make a statment, or break new ground. A lot are made just so folks have something to see they haven't seen before.

I loved this movie. It's action packed and not preachy. The special effects are awesome and I'm guessing that the camera men at least studied the way Saving Private Ryan was taped because the combat scenes have the same feel to them. I'll give this one four out of five stars.

Syfy did air something very similar this past weekend, though I doubt they had the same special effects budget as the one with the colon in the title.

As for the actors:
Aaron Eckhart - Good two-face acting, just wondering how doing a smash hit like TDK leads to a role in a seemingly forgettable generic sci-fi movie.
Michelle Rodriguez - Never saw Machete, but she was decent in RE...of course Milla and the special effects were the main focus.

As for the young actors/actresses, not into them.

All that being said, thanks for the review and I may pick it up in the Wal*Mart $5.00 bin down the road...which is a compliment considering I usually watch the movies on the pay channels for free or I buy downloaded bootlegs. Sorry to be the only downer here, but I'm waiting for Limitless.
