While compiling last week's Swaf 5 column, I found myself writing about the film Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared Syn and it hit me like a bolt of lightning. Kelly Preston was in that movie and I have yet to include her into the legendary halls of the Babes of Yore! I am utterly appalled and equally ashamed of my incompetence on this one guys, a truly epic failure on my part. For how can one think of the electrifying populace of the Babes of Yore and not first imagine the amazing Kelly Preston?! I challenge any of you with a Y chromosome to do so!
Kelly got started in her career doing bit parts on T.V. shows like Hawaii Five-O, Quincy, and CHiPs and then moved on to feature films like Christine, 10 to Midnight and the aforementioned Metalstorm. She got her big break with a ton of exposure (pun intended) in 1985 with the sexy teen comedies Mischief and Secret Admirer. These two performances really put her on the map in Hollywood not only for her effortless portrayal of the snotty spoiled "dream girl" but for her unabashed and unbelievably awesome nude scenes. Sweet fancy Moses do I love those movies!

Kelly's next film was the annoyingly "boob-less" kiddie adventure Spacecamp where she played the hottest nerd girl on the planet. Her next film choice took a sharp left turn as she played Cini the hooker in the crime thriller 52 Pick Up. She made a few appearances that same year in largely forgettable fare and didn't really snag a marquee role until 1988 when she was cast opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in the comedy Twins. Directly after that she took a very dark turn as the title character in the thriller Spellbinder where she returned to the sexually charged type of performance that largely defined her early career.
In 1991 she married super star John Travolta. The two met while filming the dreadfully bad spy comedy The Experts in 1987. Throughout most of the 90's and 00's she has continued to act in films like Jerry Maguire, Nothing to Lose and From Dusk Til Dawn and in various T.V. appearances.
I may be a little bit crazy here but I think she's just as hot today at 47 years old as she was at 27. It may take a nude scene or two for me to be 100% sure of that so if you're reading this Kelly, let's get crackin' on that. Whether she's the hottest nerd girl on the planet, the boobs du' jour of 1985 or Ms. Saturday Night Fever, one thing's for sure: Kelly Preston is a true Babe of Yore!
