Just got back from seeing Piranha 3D and here are a few things to get out of the way:

If you plan on seeing this know this:
A) It is a very gory movie... VERY gory
B) There is a LOT of nudity here
C) There is little to no actual plot to this film
D) the CG is not especially good

...Now that thats out of the way, I actually loved this film. It is a gory, sexy, funny good time. This is a cheesy tongue in cheek exploitation horror film shot in 3D, plain and simple. There is a ton of violence and nudity in this film accented in 3D. There is a 5 minute underwater nude lesbian scene set to classical music(done surprisingly tasteful) The cast is ok. Jerry O'Connel is funny as a Girls Gone Wild type filmmaker, and there are some great cameos here by Christopher Lloyd(very Doc Brown here) and Richard Dreyfus(a nod to his Jaws character). Also Eli Roth puts in a convincing turn as a wet T-shirt contest judge. The 3D isn't spectacular, but it does add to the film(especially the nude scenes and the death scenes). It's better than recent 3d converted films, but no Avatar obviously. This is one of the goriest horror films I've ever seen. There is a 15 minute scene of nonstop intense graphic slaughter and mayhem(think the opening to Saving Private Ryan horror style) Some of the deaths are just outstanding and the sheer number of them is inspired. Legendary makeup artist Greg Nicotero(Day of the Dead) and KNB do an amazing job on the makeup fx. The CG fish aren't amazingly good looking but it won't matter once the carnage starts.

Listen, this film certainly isn't for everyone. It will offend some and put off others who go into this with certain expectations. The trailers don't begin to prep you for whats in store with this film. If you go into this film expecting a sound well paced character driven story you will be let down. But.... if you want a fun, extremely violent, funny B-style horror film, you won't be disappointed. In a summer of let downs in the theaters, this is by far the most fun I've had at the movies this year. As a horror hound, I absolutely loved this flick and can't recommend it enough. See it! See it now while its still in 3D!

I may just have to run and check this flick out. I may make it a double feature since I need to see the Expendables also!!

A) It is a very gory movie... VERY gory (AGREED!!!)
B) There is a LOT of nudity here (Yeah, but not done in porno taste so it was acceptable)
C) There is little to no actual plot to this film (That goes without saying, yikes...)
D) the CG is not especially good (I thought it was better than that. The 3D and CG were on par with a SYFY channel movie.)

My favorite characters were Jerry O'Connell and the Elisabeth Shue (just wish she showed some more skin as opposed to the bikini-clad lunchmeat).

'Piranha 3D' Sequel Already Planned
Film made $10 million in its opening weekend.

Hot off the $10 million opening weekend for "Piranha 3D," Dimension Films announced Monday (August 23) that a sequel is already in the works.

"We are thrilled that audiences are not just loving 'Piranha 3D,' but cheering for it," producer Mark Canton said in a statement. "And it's fantastic that so many critics are really getting the movie and recommending it. We can't wait to get to work on the sequel."

We've been following the blood- and breast-filled production since its humble beginnings, back when we visited the Lake Havasu, Arizona, set where co-star Paul Scheer bragged to us that the film's blood content would likely break records.

"Over 600 gallons of blood were used in this movie so far, and we're not even done," Scheer told us. "This is gonna be the most boobs and blood in any motion picture of all time."

Despite the film's seemingly campy nature — complete with the cast's cheeky Funny or Die video, in which they ask the Academy to consider "Piranha 3D" for a Best Picture Oscar nomination — the 1978 original film and its 1981 sequel "Piranha II: The Spawning" launched the careers of respected filmmakers Joe Dante, John Sayles and James Cameron.

And if those established pedigrees aren't enough, director Alexandre Aja knows what it takes to get moviegoers into theaters. "There's going to be 3-D double-D boobs!" he laughed when we talked to him earlier this summer. "I want to know exactly how many different girls' boobs are in the movie. I think it's a lot. I think blood-wise, I have to get the final number, but we are beyond anything you can even imagine."

With a current rating of 81 percent Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, the film has struck a chord with critics as well. MTV's own Kurt Loder called the film's effects "top notch," "fluid" and just plain fun. "The thrills here may be traditional, but they're still actually thrilling," he wrote.

The Associated Press' Christy Lemire gushed about the film: "Run, don't walk: 'Piranha 3-D' is hilariously, cleverly gory. Mere words cannot describe how awesomely gnarly 'Piranha 3D' is, how hugely entertaining, and how urgently you must get yourself to the theatre to see it. Like, now." Agreed. In fact thinking back there was not one sex scene in the entire film. Even the underwater "lesbian scene" isn't really a lesbian scene as much as it is two naked women swiming elegantly to classical music. The nudity is mostly just topless shots. Its not too much.

This flick is definately not ok for children though. I was shocked to see a guy walk in with a very young child, then not so shocked to see them walk out after a few minutes of the movie lol.
